Jekyll Driftwood and a Free-Spirited Wedding

When blogging about Nicole and Robert’s wedding, the thoughts of the driftwood and the weather beaten trees that lined the coast keep running through my mind.  The trees especially.  I suppose my prayer is that the couples we photograph may create marriages that mimic these trees, at least figuratively.  Nicole and Robert have been together now for a few years and know they’re ready for the winds to come.  They’re kindred spirits and while we’ve only just begun to know them, we can see that they are best together.

Their wedding was this past weekend and it was a beauty.  There was absolutely no fault in the weather and the wedding setting was divine.  In true Nicole and Robert fashion, the ceremony was leisurely and calming.  An intimate portrait session followed their ceremony and we proceeded to a delectable brunch reception at a lovely little island home.  Surrounded by family and the closest of friends, Nicole and Robert began their married life together.  Enjoy these few teasers from Nicole and Robert’s September day.

Be sure to leave comments wishing Nicole and Robert the very best.  Thanks for enjoying this post.

A Midsummer Night’s Celebration

To quote the French poet, Andre Breton, “All my life, my heart has yearned for a thing I cannot name.”

Meredith and David are in love and I can tell you that love like theirs gives us purpose in our work. We were blessed with the opportunity to photograph their wedding reception yesterday evening. And what a warm and intimate celebration it was! With friends and family there, Meredith and David celebrated into the night. Here are a few portraits and details from their reception. We hope you’ll enjoy looking into these photographs as much as we enjoyed creating them…

The Weather Reflects Alissa and Matt’s Engagement

By that, I mean Alissa and Matt’s Engagement is HOT!  But the temperature only neared 100 degrees here in Savannah these last couple of days.  Alissa and Matt’s relationship might touch a bit higher if we could have measured it.

If I told you we’ve not been looking forward to this for a while, I’d be a liar.  We met Alissa and Matt several months ago and knew we’d be right for each other immediately.  After tentatively scheduling an engagement session in June, we firmed up Thursday and Friday of this week as THE days that we’d make it happen.  We knew it would be hot, but some things are undoubtedly worth braving the heat.  Alissa and Matt are from New Hampshire and they’ve actually been seeing some mildly chilly weather over the last several days.  Maybe not fir coat worthy, but starkly different than here…..I can’t believe I’m typing about the weather right now….

When we first met, Alissa and Matt openly shared a lot about themselves.  Here are some things that stuck with us:  They BOTH like beer!  (Just photographing a gal that chooses a sweetwater over a chardonnay just tells you that we’re gonna have to mix it up a little on this one.)  They may have slightly different tastes, mind you, but the enjoyment of sipping and sampling different beers is something that they share together.    But for the Southerners reading this, these two are so calm, so mild, so polite, and so caring – they just break any and all beer drinker stereotypes:) NEXT, They got engaged at Fenway Park.  Why?  Cause they’re the biggest Red Sox fans ever – that’s why!  Matt knew what to do when he met a beautiful girl who loves beer and baseball!  He proposed.  LAST, and our personal favorite – they absolutely LOVE Savannah.  How much?  So much that they’re coming all the way down here to get married.  Now there’s a lot more to know about these two, but you’ll just have to ascertain as much more as you can from the teasers in this post.

ON TO PHOTOGRAPHY!  With all the things from the prior paragraph on our mind, we really wanted to make this session different from any others that we’ve shot.  So we put all of our heads together and did some planning, some brainstorming, some more planning, some more….well, you get the point.  And by the time the sun was approaching the horizon on Thursday, the four of us set out to accomplish what we’d come up with.  I hope you enjoy these teasers from the last two days.  The photos are not necessarily posted in the order they were taken, but I think they’ll make sense.  Just ask Alissa and Matt how the days really went!  I know they’d love to share.

A Wedding Bathed in Warm Sunlight

As photographers, we find that one of our hopes often conflicts with one of our clients’.  Most soon-to-be brides and grooms pray for a wedding day filled with sunlight.  We must confess that we find ourselves praying for overcast:) Why?  Because it’s so often more photo-friendly.  However, yesterday, we fell in love anew with the mid-day sun.  Perhaps it was because yesterday’s sun is captured in our photos and will forever be connected, in our minds, to two of the loveliest people:  Kim and Dustin.  Knowing Kim and Dustin now, we can’t imagine their wedding on any other day.

It began for us at 1 p.m. in the Abercorn Suite of Savannah’s very own Cathedral Inn.  When we arrived, Kim of Face to Face was finishing the lovely Bride’s makeup.  Her hair was already wonderfully completed thanks to Joan from Hot Headz Salon.  Soon after arriving, we began capturing details and we waited for Dustin to arrive.  He was right on time and I took him out for a few portraits.  Veta stayed behind to catch Kim putting on her beautiful gown.

Kim was ready in what seemed like no time at all.  And to Veta’s and my delight, we had plenty of time until the ceremony was scheduled to begin.  Kim and Dustin had already decided to have their photographs taken prior to the ceremony, so Veta and I began.  Once we were done, it was almost time.  Most of the guests had already arrived and Kristin from New Arts Ensembles played her harp so beautifully as they waited.  Veta and I took just a few minutes to make sure that we captured the delightful floral creations from A to Zinnias.  Kim and Dustin went back to relax and cool off for a few minutes before their wedding.

When the time had finally arrived, Reverend Schulte officiated a sweet ceremony as all of Kim’s and Dustin’s guests witnessed.  Shortly after the ceremony, the guests were whisked away by one of Old Savannah Tours‘ stately trolleys.  The intimate trolley ride soon came to an end at the gorgeous Tybee Island Wedding Chapel.  Kim and Dustin were warmly welcomed with the wonderful scents from Cape Creations‘ delectable cuisine.  A sweet first dance set the tone for Kim and Dustin’s intimate reception.

Veta and I can say without question that their wedding was one of the most naturally unfolding and un-rushed celebrations that we’ve had the honor of photographing.  We could tell throughout the day that both Kim and Dustin were simply content to just absorb all of the wonderful things that their day brought them.  And we liked it that way:)

A special thanks goes out to Savannah Special Events for all the necessary rentals.  And last but certainly not least, we’d like to issue our biggest thanks to Ashley and Tara from Posh Petals and Pearls for pulling all of us together to make this day as special as possible for Kim and Dustin.  Now without any more chatter….

Passion in Forsyth Park – A Classical Wedding

As we write this post to share some of the selections from Andrea and Ryan’s wedding day, they are enjoying their first day of being a family. Savannah weddings are quite fascinating in a way that they bring people from such diverse backgrounds to this one location. As we photograph, we see and hear stories that leave us speechless because we realize that there is no limit to how diverse people’s lives can be. We, as photographers, are placing ourselves mid-stream in the flow of life and attempt to capture just blocks of moments before life goes on. What an awesome perspective.

Forsyth Park and its fountain comes to to mind first when a visitor thinks of Savannah. One may call it a staple image of the city, and each city must have one. The park’s heritage allowed for it to become what it is today – a host to a variety of Savannah’s events, a place for people to gather, share, enjoy life. It appears, that the celebration of starting a new life together fits into Forsyth’s list of activities quite well.

Well, this brings us back to Andrea and Ryan, a couple who found each other to be such a perfect match. Although they were born a world away from each other, life brought them together. They recognized that life could not go on as before if they didn’t stay together, and we were fortunate to photograph their wedding. Their wedding day started as many others – the hustle and bustle of getting all of the details in place, making the deadlines, looking gorgeous. What an exciting and beautiful whirlwind.

However, Andrea and Ryan’s special event became unique when they showed up in Savannah. Surrounded by closest friends and family, the event was elegant and intimate, and “relationships” is what comes to mind when thinking of a word to describe what is important to them. Solid, reserved and in love with each other, Andrea & Ryan celebrated their wedding day in purity of joy with those they call family. We wish them many years of life together. In closing, please enjoy some their “passionate” portraits that were taken just shortly before the day was over. The rich tones of the night and the exquisite presence of the Savannah’s square details translated into passion between these lovers! Very romantic! Don’t be shy and leave Andrea & Ryan your comments and warm wishes.
