Family Photos…..with a splash of Azelle style!

I have to admit that I’m a little bit emotional about writing this particular post.  Masha and Denis have been our friends practically from the first time we met them.  I’m convinced that many of us occasionally have periods in our life when we wonder if the “good old days” are gone.  We wonder sometimes if anyone other than our families really care.  We wonder when we’ll get to experience genuine human kindness again.

And then sometimes, something wonderful happens.  God places people in your life to remind you of who we really are meant to be.  It seems like chance, but it’s not.  Veta and I know that Masha and Denis were two people that reminded us that there are still genuinely good people around us.  There are people who look for ways to lift others up even though they have their own struggles.  They’re an inspiration to us.  So when Masha asked Veta if we could set up a portrait session to capture the love of their family as well as the beauty of Savannah’s springtime azaleas, we were elated.  You see, Masha and Denis are from St. Petersburg (not the one in Florida) and they had never seen azaleas before coming to Savannah.  Some things that we take for granted are so very lovely.

When shooting families, we almost tend to refrain from posing them.  We recognize that posed formal family portraits are what usually end up over the mantle or on the desks at work.  But it’s generally not what we do.  It’s true that formal portraits arrange everyone wonderfully in a perfect setting with all of their faces well lit.  But Veta and I are of the opinion that formal family portraits are remnants of a bygone era in photography when people having their portraits taken HAD to remain still to give the 8×10 camera the few seconds it required to properly expose.  If our goal is to capture the love of a family, then how better can we do that than by capturing them as they act out their love for each other?

The Sunflowers, Clover, and Bamboo Tell the Story

Yesterday, we photographed a wedding for a very sweet couple who we just met a few months ago.  Though we only recently met, we are certain that Laura and Sean are made for each other.  They’re both free spirited in their own way and so very selfless.

Laura can take credit for the vast majority of the wedding’s planning and details.  Her originality and creativity are something very special as her father referenced during his toast.  For their celebration, Laura beautifully combined a number of very different elements to express both her and Sean’s personalities.  Originally from Pittsburg, Laura now resides in Savannah and wanted her northern family to enjoy a little southern flair during her wedding.  Even though Sean’s family lives in Georgia, Sean and Laura’s choice of having good old fashioned barbecue for dinner was well appreciated.  Barnes Restaurant catered the reception and the food looked wonderful.

The wedding’s details including sunflowers, black and white decor, Irish clovers, and a surprise bagpiper were all tied together in Savannah’s lovely Bamboo Gardens.  The bridal sunflower bouquet along with the fragrant rosemary and salidego boutonnieres were created by our friend Vicki Sepielli’s Kiwi Fleur.  Music, rocking hard into the night was brought to Laura and Sean’s guests by The Train Wrecks.

We merely hope that these few teasers will serve as a reminder to those in attendance what a wonderful celebration they had.  And for those who couldn’t make it last night, we hope that these will give you just a taste of what you missed.

Something “blue” was the “TLA” acronym Laura had sewn into her dress using a blue thread, naturally signifying “True Love Always”.

Please don’t be shy and leave comments for Laura and Sean, wishing them all the good stuff for years to come!

Jennifer’s Bridal Portraits

I think these portraits speak for themselves.  Jennifer, you were absolutely divine.

A Tenth Anniversary in One of the South’s Finest Jewels

Working much of the time can be a cause for forgetting what one began working for to begin with.  This statement isn’t meant to be profound or deep in meaning.  It’s only meant to encourage us all to reflect on those we love and why we love them so.

This weekend, Veta and took time to reflect on this 10 year story that is us.  Yep, it was our anniversary.  Now we usually don’t go nuts on anniversaries but this was a special one for us.  In a day and age when marriages tend to last as long as they’re convenient, ten years isn’t something to sneeze at.  Some people say that they’ve had ups and downs in their marriages, but I brag when I say that I think ours has been about 99.99% ups.  We’ve had tough circumstances, but we’ve faced them together – as one.  She and I have become kindred spirits, really, through these years together.  I can’t imagine life without her and I can confidently say that she feels the same about me.

How we ended up in Charleston is still relatively secretive.  Hopefully not for too long, though:) But while we vacationed, we found Charleston to share many of the same characteristics that we were attracted to by Savannah.  I suppose Charleston’s southern charm made us realize again how much we absolutely adore Savannah.

So to cut through the chatter, take a look at some of the sights that caught our eye over the weekend.  I warn you that these photos are indeed random, but I think that you’ll see textures, shapes, colors, objects, and places that draw our attention.

Merry Christmas From Azelle Photography

Recently, we were in Hilton Head Island’s Westin Resort and Spa for an evening.  Fortunately for us, their resort was fully decorated and we happened to have our cameras.  While there, we took an opportunity to shoot some nice Christmassy photos for all to enjoy.

We also wanted to take an opportunity to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas.  Our prayer is that we all take time to remember who is really important in our lives and to take time to show them how much we care during this beautiful season and throughout the entire year to follow.

Exciting times are coming for us and we hope that you’ll stay tuned.  Until then…
