Yet another Christmas Story…

By Veta

The story you are about to hear was inspired by a children’s book Kahlen’s Mom bought at the Children’s Book Festival. This is also a collaboration of hearts and imagination to re-create a fairy tale that we promised we would photograph for the winning bid at the Ferst Foundation for Childhood literacy auction. To read more background on the auction, follow the link here, and do not forget to check in with the auction next year!

Well, the story goes like this.

Little Kahlen with apple cheeks and cherry red lips comes to visit Grandma and Grandpa at their house in the woods. It is a chilly afternoon in December, just one or two days before Christmas. She is waiting for Santa to come.

That afternoon, she goes out into the yard to play. She visits her Grandma’s fern garden, plays with her ball and then she lays down for a spell. See, she is a bit tired since she didn’t have a nap today.

The trees are so tall that they point to the sky. The wind is moving the tree tops and they wave at Kahlen and whisper to her. She stops moving so she can hear the trees and they tell her all about how this Christmas, Santa needs more helpers to deliver all the presents.

Santa has been trying hard to find decent help. He asked fairies for help, but all they do is giggle and use their magic wands to turn presents into sunshine.  They play with unicorns and just don’t get the work done. The fairies even became so giggly that they turned Santa into a frog!

Then, Mrs. Claus acts on Santa’s behalf and calls on the trusty elves. Elves are really good workers and are able to turn the fairy magic all around. When the best elf arrives to the Claus house, she kisses the frog that Santa became. Voila - Santa is back to his old self again. This best little elf just saved Christmas!

It is now time to deliver the presents - no time to waste. The best elf immediately gets to work as Santa’s little helper and gathers many, many presents. But the work is not complete yet.  Santa still needs help delivering the presents and asks his best elf to assist.  Since elves don’t use reindeer, Santa’s best little elf summons her rocking horse to magically carry her from house to house.

If you enjoyed this story, please check out the book that inspired Kahlen’s Mom: “Who Will Help Santa This Year?”

And most importantly, if you enjoyed this little elf’s tale, please leave comments for her Mommy, Daddy, and Grandparents to enjoy.
