It Never Gets Old…..

You know, it’s been over 4 years now that we’ve been in Savannah. For those of you that don’t know us (and those that do but are in for a refresher), we moved here from Milledgeville, GA in 2005. Veta was the pioneer while I stayed behind for about 3 months to “close up shop” in Milledgeville. We had been doing a little bit of photographic business (or at least trying to) back in middle Georgia, but looking back on it - we were really GREEN! It’s here in this city that our desires and abilities have begun to soar. It’s here that we really want to establish ourselves as a rockin’ business. We don’t want to be the best portrait photographers in Savannah. We do however want to be among the best and to get a fair shake at competing for the upper end of this market. (I should also say that I wouldn’t mind if someone else thinks we’re the best :)
But enough business. Sometimes life stacks bricks up on your plate that end up getting a little heavy. When that load starts to put a strain on your back and shoulders, sometimes you just have to take it off and set it down for a few minutes. That’s what we did last weekend. Although we’re not carrying anything that we don’t love to carry, all of it sort of put a strain on us. We decided to take ourselves a little stay-cation.
Aside from being an awesome town to do business in, Savannah is an awesome spot to vacation. I dare say that it’s probably the coolest spot in Georgia for just leaving your car parked at the hotel and having a “walking weekend”. We left our car parked at and stayed at the new Bohemian Hotel right on the river. Veta and I can’t recommend the Bohemian enough. It’s absolutely divine and the staff was so accommodating. We thoroughly enjoyed the rooftop lounge and the restaurant downstairs was filled with tasty food too. We’re going to try our best to remember this weekend for the rest of our lives. Hopefully some of these photos will remind us…..
It was pretty cold last weekend. You can’t see it in the photos below, but there was lots of steam coming off of the river, creating quite a nice setting for an early morning stroll.

All the tourists shoot photos of these transport ships. Since we were tourists during this weekend……well see below:

There are details like the one below all throughout the Bohemian. There was nothing “canned” feeling about the hotel and we got the distinct impression that all of the art inside was chosen specifically for the hotel.

If ever you’re in Savannah and don’t know what to shoot, we recommend the brick-work :) Tons of texture and the odd plant growing out of it.

I have no idea what the heck this is, but Veta spotted it and took a shot. If you know and would like to enlighten the rest of us, leave a comment below!

Chrome always makes for a nice black and white. Motorcycles are everywhere in this southern city.

Hopefully, this is what the yankees saw when they first set foot in Savannah. (just kidding….well, ok I’m not kidding)

The next four shots are from the roof of the Bohemian. The first two are from the south side of the hotel, with the latter two being shot from the west side.

Here’s a little snippet from the lounge section of Ruth Chris. We both had petite filets. I had sweet potato souffle and Veta had broiled tomatoes. I can say that this is definitely the best steak I’ve had in years and possibly - ever! I’m relatively picky about steak, so that’s saying something.

Hope you’ve enjoyed this glimpse from our weekend. We know that we did!

Let’s do it again!
great pictures!
Could the little goat-man statue be Pan? This would be my best guess.
Hey, this mom doesn’t just think you’re the best photographers around. I KNOW you’re the best, and the comments just crack me up. I’m so glad you took the weekend to back up and regroup. I can’t say enough how much I love you two, even though you’re going to beat me at Scrabble.
