Weekend With Our Family

Last weekend, my Parents invited Veta and me to come and visit them at a cabin they rented at George L. Smith State Park. We, of course, accepted and had a blast.  If you’ve never had a chance, you should visit the park sometime.  It’s very quiet and conveniently located about 14 miles from Metter, Georgia.  My Sister, Joanna, and Brother-In-Law, Tracy came with their pride and joy, Alana.  Of course, being the baby of the family, Alana was the center of attention – photographically speaking.  Enjoy these photos and captions as you catch a brief glimpse of our fun.

The photo above shows the ferns that covered the ground outside of Mom and Dad’s cabin.  It was one lovely Saturday morning.

The fisheye always provides an interesting perspective.  Looks like it works on nature photography as well.

This little guy was hanging out on the railings outside the cabin.  I love lizards.  It’s their legless cousins that give me the heeby jeeby’s.

Here’s Alana taking a load off on the back porch.  I’m thinking that the beautiful screen porch and calming natural setting was less of an attraction than just “rocking” was.

Tracy assembled Alana’s “yard sale treasure” at the cabin.  Joanna evidently had found one still in the box at a yard sale for about 75% off of retail price.  New item still in box, never used…….sounds like a yard sale Veta and I would have:)

Alana’s checking out the ground-cover at the State Park’s Playground.

These are the “what exactly do you think you’re doing, Uncle J” looks that I received all weekend.  She likes me well enough I think, but it’s my Sasquatchish appearance that she’s a little wary of.

Three generations of the women-folk of the Bateham and Barfield clans.

“I can do anything as long as I have my shades and some support from Mimi!”

Alana would stop each and every time while ascending the steps to the slide so that she could help clean the pine straw and bark off.  Joanna says that she has genetically inherited this obsessive compulsive cleaning disorder from…….Tracy?  Nah, I don’t think so!

These plastic rocks are like magnets to Alana.  She just conquered the whole walking thing a few months ago.  And now, she’s climbing like crazy.  That girl’s part monkey, I think.

Joanna was calling Tracy to come and assist his offspring down the slide.  ”Tracy, Tracy…” she called.  So Alana chipped in and called “Tracy, Tracy….” as well.

Here we go!

“Let’s try it again, Daddy”

“Give me a boost, Mimi.  I can SEE the top!”

Now that’s what I’m talking about.  The “wary of Uncle Jason” look.  You’d think I had tried to steal her cereal.

Here’s the lip ruffle of pleasure.  Obviously, Alana is happy with something.

Here’s my Dad riding his bicycle.  I won’t mention his age, but I will tell you that he’s in pretty good shape for what it is.  He looks like he’ll be riding for a long time to come.  Soon he’ll have a little riding partner!

Lastly, here’s a shot of the entire tribe as it stands today.  Not many of us, yet.  But it’s Quality, not Quantity……right?
